Education Sites Galore!

© Gareth Edwards

Hi all! This month's article is dedicated to sites that people have emailed and asked me to feature. So here goes.... :)

SchoolsNet: URL: http://www.schoolsnet.com/

SchoolsNet is a definitive guide to more than 5800 schools throughout the United Kingdom. It has a vast amount of useful information on all of these schools; from academic statistics to home work requirements. Through the site you can subscribe to one or all of the three available newsletters, titled "Pupils", "Teachers" and "Parents". There is also a great search engine to help you locate a specific school.

K12.Org: URL: http://www.k12.org/

K12.Org is a great little site with links to many interesting and useful education sites. These fall under categories such as News, Fun and Resources.

K12 Resources: URL: http://www.k12resources.com/

"This site is dedicated to the development of web based solutions and systems for the K12 community. Our services range from web site consultation to custom tailored web based reporting systems. As reporting requirements become more demanding, and computing environments more diversified, we will be providing cost effective, platform independent, web based reporting environments for the K12 community."

That says it all :)

The Learning Kingdom: URL: http://www.learningkingdom.com/

The Learning Kingdom is a fantastic site! It has a great variety of facts and fun, such as the Daily Features, which includes "Today in History", "Cool Fact" and "Cool Word". You can even have these sent to you daily, by joining the free mailing lists available.

The Learning Kingdom is developing an online quiz system which can coach children and adults in many subject areas, including arithmetic, geography, history, and science. It is called "Quizzer" and you can try out the beta version of it for free. Math in the Kingdom (MITK) is The Learning Kingdom's online arithmetic tutor. It currently teaches 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade material, and is designed both to supplement the classroom and for homeschooling. Students can enroll in the Academy for a free trial period of 10day and if they wish to continue using it, it is only $9.95 a month.

The Learning Kingdom also has many fun games that anyone can play for free that has a Java enabled browser. These include: "Gaggle" that teaches you the special words used for groups of animals, "Blankety-Five Squared", which is a simple game that will teach you to square two-digit numbers that end in five, and "Eleven Times" which is a fun game that teaches you how to multiply two-digit numbers by eleven.

'til next time :) - GE
