This weeks article consists of two reviews. The first review is of The
School Report Web Page (http://www.theschoolreport.com/ ), and the second of
The American Schools Directory (http://www.asd.com/ )
The Schools Report a service designed to give the browser all the information they need to identify school districts which meet your family's educational needs and goals. The page is particularly designed for people who are moving and need to find a new school for their family. The main feature of The School Report is the interactive page that allows you to find the information you need about the area you are intending to move to. First you choose a state, and then either a county or a City. From here, the CGI generates a table of information about the schools in the chosen area. The information on the table includes: student population, average elementary school population, student teacher ratios, average class sizes for Grade one and High School, and the number of computers in the elementary classrooms. This page has several other useful tools and information, including a live chat page with real estate professionals, which allows you to talk to someone from the area you are interested in moving to. Although this page is well designed, it is only really useful if you are considering to move and wondering which school to choose. The second web site under review is The American Schools Directory (http://www.asd.com/ ). This web page is an online database of schools throughout America - "The Internet Gateway to all 106,000 K-12 American Schools" as their motto says. All a browser has to do is enter a few letters from their schools name, choose the State and press "Go!". The search engine then returns a list of schools matching that search string, along with the schools city and post code, and a link to a web-page on the ASD server with information about that school. When you click on the link, you get masses of information about the school and other assorted ASD internal links. There is a link to the schools Home Page; information on the school; an Alumni directory; a guest book; a local map; a Create-A-Note section, local links, an online Yearbook, a Wish List section, the schools calendar, a web-cards facility, and of course, the schools motto. There is also a Creative Corner section - an art display of national student creativity - I recommend having a look at some of the pictures - there are some up-and-coming Piscasos! As part of ASD, there is an extensive collection of resources and links regarding education (http://www.asd.com/asd/edconn/page5nf.htm ). Here there is an online resources section of interactive learning activities for Go To Page: 1 2
