Educast

This month I thought I would tell you all about the great service Educast (located at www.educast.com). Educast is an Internet broadcast service that provides the finest information and resources to education professionals. The service is free of charge and has a lot of fantastic features. Educast is an interactive screen saver, although so different, and so much more powerful than screen savers we are all used to. Educast displays valuable, up-to-date news and information, and allows you to access first-rate Internet sites with the click of a mouse. Installed on your computer, Educast automatically receives updates from the Internet. It is possible to customize Educast to bring you just the information you want when you want it, and even view it off-line at a later, more convenient time. Configure a profile of your interests, and the customized information is automatically delivered to your computer screen in an easy-to-use format. The Educast Network uses a combination of client and server software. When you choose to update (either manually or with a pre-set schedule), Educast delivers the information you have selected directly from the Educast Internet server to your computer screen.

Educast is tailor-made for the educational community, delivering news and information you want directly to your computer. You no longer have to waste time and money searching the Internet for the information you desire.

With Educast, you can access a wide variety of resources for educators, including; activity sheets; lesson plans; grant, workshop, and career development information; articles, abstracts and commentaries; converse with fellow educators on topics of interest; and even visit high-quality education sites. Educast is specifically designed for teachers, administrators, parents and anyone involved in the educational community. USA TODAY, Education Week, the U. S. Department Education, and Teacher Magazine are some of the sources Educast uses to obtain its fantastic content.

Educast is available for both the Macintosh and Windows 95/98 operating systems and most of you should easily have the minimum system requirements to run the application. No screen saver software is needed to run Educast as it comes with everything you need to tap into this information gold mine. If you do have screen savers (such as AfterDark), Educast will not affect these and you can still use them if you so wish. All that is needed is a Mac or Windows 95 machine with an Internet connection. For all the AOL users out there, don't worry, Educast works with AOL too!

From personal experience, I have found this software extremely easy to install and use. It's a fantastic Internet and educational tool, and I encourage everybody to try it out.
