Just too much going on in the news this week from which I can choose so I decided to write a little about everything.
First of all... they mess with Barbie and now they're taking pot shots at GI Joe. Apparently if Joe were an actual person he would have 26-inch biceps. Undoubtedly the same people who insisted Barbie caused anorexia, are the same people who are now worried that GI Joe will encourage puny boys, who have trouble measuring up to Joe, to start injecting themselves with steroids. (Poor Dan Quayle, he compared a fictional character to real life and they laughed at him.) I have to wonder when these people are going to get a real job?! What exactly would make these researchers happy? Since American companies are spending millions on revamping theater, airplane and riding mower seats to accommodate American's increasing backsides, perhaps these researchers would be happier with a more realistic figurine. Some big fat guy with a beer gut and a comb over. Now that will be a bestseller! I can see their motto now, "Strive to be average!" And then... too many of us are giving the government free use of our money. How do we know this? From 1995 to 1999 federal tax refunds have increased a whopping 100%. That tasty check you get after filing your taxes means you are allowing the government to use your money all year for free. Granted you don't earn much, in terms of interest, by placing it in a savings account anymore but at least by placing it in a bank the government can't get its grubby mitts on it for free. The average refund this year was more than $1,500 and expected to be even bigger next year. A financial consultant maintains that most people spend this money the minute they get it, so in terms of using it as a savings account it is pretty short lived. There's the... Bolder Boulder race held in Boulder, Colorado each year. Held every year on Memorial Day weekend the 10K race will be drawing more than 41,000 runners, walkers and wheelchairs this year. According to the Rocky Mountain News each runner usually brings a friend which brings $8.93 million into the city of Boulder. It began twenty years ago with 2,700 participants. Now almost 8,000 people come from out of state alone. These people all flood the city of Boulder and buy food, gas, t-shirts, videos, Band-Aids, gauze, ACE bandages, splints, Neosporin...well you get the picture. Go To Page: 1 2
