A Dryer Sheet Does More Than You Think

© Cheryl Lewis

Isn't it wonderful when you're trying so hard to be frugal and stretch every dollar and friends and family give you some of their favorite tips and hints? My mom recently sent me an email titled Bounce. Now I wasn't sure but I opened the email and I'm so glad I did.

I must admit that I do use Bounce dryer sheets and I don't cut them in half. You see one of my biggest secrets is that I'm a scent fanatic. Ok, maybe fanatic is a bit strong but I really like for my house, my clothes and my person to smell good. Granted - what I think smells good may not be what Ms. Perfect down the street thinks smells good, but hey it's my nose.

Anyway, my mom sent me this email and it's got all these fabulous tips and tricks that you can do with a dryer sheet. Knowing my mom, she titled the email Bounce because she knows I use it - every load. I'm assuming that these tips will most likely work with any fabric softener sheet. They are simply to good not to share.

Without further adue:

  • It will chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them.

  • *It takes the odor out of books and photo albums that don't get opened too often.

  • *Eliminates static electricity from your television screen. Designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your television screen with the a used dryer sheet to keep dust from resettling.

  • *Dissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a sheet.

  • *Freshen the air in your home. Place an individual dryer sheet in a drawer or hang in the closet.

  • Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a dryer sheet before beginning to sew.

  • *Prevent musty suitcases. Place an individual dryer sheet inside empty luggage before storing.

  • *Freshen the air in your car. Place a sheet under the front seat.

  • Clean baked-on foods from a cooking pan. Put a sheet in a pan, fill with water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The anti-static agent apparently weakens the bond between the food.

  • Eliminate odors in wastebaskets. Place your favorite scented dryer sheet at the bottom of the wastebasket.

  • *Collect cat hair. Rubbing the area with a dryer sheet will magnetically attract all the loose hairs.

  • *Eliminate static electricity from Venetian blinds. Wipe the blinds to prevent dust from resettling.

  • Wipe up sawdust from drilling or sand papering. A used sheet will collect sawdust like a tack cloth.
