Eclectic Homemaking Last Minute Christmas

Christmas is now less than a week away and some of us are in a total panic. We have children that still need gifts or we still have family members to buy for. Then again, maybe you're like me and you ordered gifts but the company you ordered from, the one that has been telling you the item is on backorder but will be here in plenty of time for Christmas has suddenly changed their tune, so you're short on gifts.

This year I've decided to do something different - no panicking and no ultra stress. There isn't a lot of money for Christmas, especially since being laid off a week before Christmas because the company couldn't afford to keep me, but 'no money' seems to be a common theme. I've realized that Christmas does not have to be 'perfect'. I'm not living in a Norman Rockwell painting - this is real and this is my family.

My goal for this Christmas is that I enjoy my family and my family enjoys being together. Does that mean my kids won't be kids and argue and whine? No way! Will there still be dirt on the floor? Mmmm...probably so. We'll clean the house, but we sure won't be canceling Christmas just because the linen closet is a nightmarish mess.

You see, I AM an Eclectic Homemaker - loving, flexible but most importantly finding the peace that makes life with children wonderfully joyful.

Ok, so I need some quick, easy and cheap gifts. Does that sound familiar?

Grandma's beautiful sewing box isn't going to make it so let's make a set of wonderful Eclectic Homemaking Jar Recipes. I picked some of my favorite jar recipes and made them up and decorated each jar with ribbons and put them in a basket.

It doesn't appear that my sister-in-law's outfit is going to arrive before Santa so I need a gift for her too. I went to my favorite bookstore and picked up a gift certificate. It's not much but it shows her that I thought of her, and really, that's what Christmas is about.

Since I have time thanks to my former boss, I'm doing all the baking that I've done the previous years. This year there will be cakes, cookies and whatever else strikes my fancy. Put a few of each in a small tin or basket, wrap it with wax paper and secure it with Christmas ribbon. That's a gift that is sure to please.
