Your Easy Do-It-Yourself Guide To Profitable Ebooks

Previously, we learned how others can produce our ebook for us writers. For a price, that is. In the next five minutes, you will discover how to do almost everything by yourself, for free.

Well, not exactly. You still have to spend your time. But if you prefer to save money, then read on...

1.0 Write Your Text

All too often, some people tend to rush into website building. After spending weeks adjusting a logo here, or changing a colored bar there, we end up with no text for the ebook.

So please... just sit down and write:

• A topic that you yourself honestly enjoy writing and reading about
• Something that can be read in a non-linear manner (i.e., chapters of a reference book)
• Non-fiction or tutorials that are engaging ... because they contain stories and anecdotes
• Text that comes in short chunks (paragraphs of 5-7 lines, or even less)
• Words that move the reader forward (visit http://www.matthewreilly.com and sample the short stories of this two-time International Bestselling novelist)

Don't even move to the next section. Please write your text first.

After you've written your text, decide which parts or chapters you will excerpt or give away for free. Choose around five of them.

Done? Good! Now it's time to set-up your online payment system...

2.0 Join An Affiliate Program

Visit http://www.ixquick.com and type the following in the search box:

+"affiliate program" +topic1 +topic2

Actually, instead of typing the word topic1 above, use a word or term that both you and your potential ebook readers are interested in.

Let's say your ebook is about training dogs. Here are some things you can search for:

• +"affiliate program" +training +dogs
• +"affiliate program" +dog +competition
• +"affiliate program" +pet +trainer

Most affiliate programs will require that you already have a web site. Some do not have such a rule and will even allow you to market their site and products via email.

Once you've found such a program (preferably one that offers products priced in the $17 to $27 range), sign up as an affiliate.

Remember, join programs that sell products or services that both you and your potential ebook customer will want to buy. You provide excerpts of your work to your target market, then ask them to buy the products that they like via your affiliate program referral code. You then give the complete book to them because you earn a commission via the affiliate program.

To illustrate: There's a new book in Amazon.com that deals with training pets. You like it, and even your ebook's potential readers want to buy it. You then ask those readers to go ahead and buy that book in Amazon.com, but to buy it through your affiliate link. In exchange for that effort, you provide them with your own ebook, delivered via email.
