Your Search Engine Friendly Web Page Template

You know that sooner or later, you'll need to learn HTML or how to make web pages because...

  • If you have web pages, you can turn them into ebooks.
  • You can use web pages to promote yourself and your ebooks.
  • You can design web pages to help interested customers find you on the web with the help of search engines.

You've probably checked out HTML Goodies (http://www.htmlgoodies.com), but to help you get started quickly, here's a web page you can use and modify for free: http://www.webmanila.com/ecom/css.html

To save a copy of that web page to your hard disk, just put your mouse over that underlined link, right-click, then left-click on the line that says "Save File As..." or "Save Target As..." and remember where on your hard disk you saved the file.

To edit it, you can use any text editor (such as Notepad) or if you have Internet Explorer, view that web page then click on "View" and then "Source" (to see the insides of that web page).

The View-Source feature of Internet Explorer (the program you use to see web pages) allows you to edit the stuff you find inside the web page or html file, save it, and then later view the changed file.

You can also save the web page under different file names using the "File - Save As..." command in Internet Explorer. This way, you can build many web pages that have a similar looking structure and which differ basically in terms of the text found in the main body of the web page.

-----[NOTE]----- Would you like me to make some kind of video tutorial that shows you how to do the above? The video tutorial can be run on your computer assuming you have Windows95/98 installed and that you have a sound card. If there is enough interest, I will make your free play-on-the-computer video tutorial. Please let me know at mviloria@yahoo.com ok? Thanks! -----[/NOTE]-----

Ok, so now you have the free web page sample. Why is it search engine friendly? Or better yet, why should you even care that it is search engine friendly?

People use search engines to find your page. Since there are possibly 550 billion web pages out there (visit http://www.brightplanet.com and learn about the invisible web), it pays to make pages that are easily found by search engines like Google, Hotbot or Excite, to name a few.

Search engines like easy-to-read pages. Easy to read, that is, from the search engine's point of view. That means your page is designed as simply as possible: minimal use of tables, fancy graphics, or complex programming.
