Doing the Right thing

Why is so hard to do the right things in life? We are constantly fighting to do those things that are good, and fair.

We tend to want to speed, eat too much, drink too much, talk too much, fight too much, and care too little.

Our diets and our lifestyle can be the same way. We know what's good for us, how many of us can repeat the terminology as well as our own names? Eat small meals, eat often, eat low fat, drink water, exercise, watch the sugar. If we know this, why don't we do it?

Well, because we are all strong willed humans and creatures of habit.

We've always grabbed the chips, the beer, the ice cream or the candy. (Hopefully not all, and not all at once)

We tell ourselves we will do better, and then we use our exercise equipment for towel racks. Why can't we get our collective acts together?

I believe we do things because we have always done things, and because we were raised a certain way.

If you don't believe this, think about your kids, and the way you talk to them. Isn't it like your own mom or dad talked to you? There are differences, but, don't you ever see your parents coming through? Of course you do, it's natural and normal, even if it is frustrating.

Eating is a learned behavior, as are all habits. Unlearning and relearning is the hard part.

So, this holiday season, stop and think about what you are eating, and what you are not eating. Think about why you are drinking so much, and why you decided to not exercise. If you look deep enough into the truth of your soul, you may find answers you are not prepared for. Take heart. Discovery is the beginning of a wonderful adventure.
