Seeing myself through your eyesLooking into a mirror can be a harsh and painful moment of judgement for most of us. However, compared to looking into a friend or companion's eyes, this is a small moment of fear. We tend to put so much value on what other's think, and, though it may seem to go against my opinions, I think placing value on other's opinions in a good thing. At least, a good thing when viewed through calm, steady and reasonable eyes. Letting ourselves go can be an uplifting experience. It's true. That first day you decide to not shave under your arms, or to let your legs be, fills you with a sense of wonder and freedom unparalled. This is a fresh, healthy and good view. If you go without shaving for a few days. Maybe even a week. However, if you haven't shaved since 1985, we are discussing an entirely different set of problems. An example of this would be a friend of mine, whom had fallen into a depressed stupor, deciding the effort, bother, and hassle were not worth the result. (And, admit it ladies, haven't we all felt this way a time or two?) Needless to say, she allowed herself to fall into unkempt grooming habits, and, the results were frightening. Please understand when I make the following statement, joker though I may at times be, I am entirely serious. My neighbor walked over to chat over a cup of tea, and when I saw her walking up the sidewalk I thought it odd that she had decided to wear black wool socks with such a cute summer outfit. That is, until she came close enough for me to realize she was wearing sandles, and no socks. It was all black, dense, unshaven hair. So, my point is, having a good friend, or relative point out to you that you might want to, say, take a bath, or, wash your hair, may seem like a tragedy. However, if you need it, it's the best favor anyone has ever done for you in your life. Feeling healthy, and happy, is a part of good grooming, so I encourage you to evaluate your lifestyle, and your health. Take good care of yourself, and care about how you treat yourself. You should be your own best friend. Wool socks, and all.
