Let them eat cake

Diet food is unappealing, stale and tasteless. Right? Well, no actually. Atleast not all of it is, anyway.

Most people, women especially, have the idea firmly in their minds that anything that tastes good must be bad for you, and disasterous on your diet. But, is that really the truth? Not in my experience it's not, in fact, I have found that there are a lot of really good "fun" foods that are low in fat.

The secret to eating what you like, when you like, and still maintaining or losing weight is really quit simple. Labels.

Yes, I said that dreaded and misunderstood word, food labels. Now, before you click out of here like a bat out of hell, and give me a bad rating to boot, please give me a minute to explain.

I, too, thought that reading labels was boring, stupid, and a complete waste of time. Not to mention embarrassing. (Who wants to be seen reading cracker boxes in aisle 4?)

But, what labels can do for you is pure liberation. They allow you to really choose foods you like, instead of going for the cottage cheese and lettuce everyday for two weeks.

Now, nothing is wrong with cottage cheese. If you enjoy it. If you don't, why would you eat it? Isn't eating foods you dislike setting you up for failure from the beginning of your efforts.

Losing weight, or maintaining weight is hard enough without starting with the chips (if you'll pardon that word) stacked against you.

When I started reading labels I realized that most chocolate is not that fattening. It's true. Look at the label of a bridge mix, it's worth your time.

Also, certain of my "comfort" foods were also acceptable for my eating plan. Hooray! I could not believe that Bean dip has one fat gram per serving...oh yes!

The best plan, for anyone who is serious about healthy eating, is to decide how many calories and / or grams of fat you can eat per day, and then read those labels!

So count those calories and fat grams, and you may just find that you, too, can eat cake. But, be careful, because even if Marie Antoinnette had a great idea when she said "let them it cake", you wouldn't want to "lose your head" and blow your diet. Good luck!
