I wanted to share with you, a few different things I've discovered online recently, regarding eating disorders. This will be compilation of several different sites that I've found, related in different ways to eating disorders. I may try to put together a more indepth article on one or more of these sites in the future. I've learned of an interesting twist in how we are able to educate ourselves about eating disorders, by way of the internet. HealthyPlace.com is offering access through their site, to view and listen to very interesting mental health videos. Among those available, is one titled Reflections of Emptiness: Straight Talk About Eating Disorders. This interesting program follows four San Antonio teenagers and chronicals their battles with eating disorders. After viewing the piece, you have an option of posting comments on a Bulletin Board as well as read what others have posted about the documentary. I have to admit, I think I got as much, if not more, out of reading other people's comments... as I did from the documentary itself. Cudos to Healthyplace.com for coming up with this interesting forum for eating disorder education. In past articles, I've mentioned a few of the many online eating disorder newsletters available. I'd like to bring to your attention again, a wonderful newsletter called Eating Peacefully. Annette Colby, Phd prepares this thoughtful and informative newsletter, which is emailed each week to those who subscribe. There is no cost to subscribe, and the newsletters are usually full of inspiration, encouragement, and information. To learn more about Annette Colby and her Eating Peacefully newsletter, visit her at Power-Nutrition.com. If you've read through any of my previous articles, you'll be familiar with a site called SOMETHING-FISHY. If you haven't visited this site yet, you should. It offers a wealth of information and support options, and I still feel it's one of the most comprehensive eating disorder sites on the web. I want to direct you to one support option in particular...they're called the FISHING FOR SUPPORT CHATS.... You'll find more information and the scheduled chate times at FISHING FOR SUPPORT. Recently in the news, Japanese researchers are studying the effects of certain heartburn medication on eating disorder patients. HEALTHSCOUT.COM reports "Some people with eating disorders suffer grave imbalances of electrolytes -- vital molecules that include sodium and potassium -- because their vomiting and starvation force them to live off their own muscle. However, researchers in Fukushima, Japan, say they corrected this complication in a female patient by giving her the drug lansoprazole, which belongs to a family of compounds called proton-pump inhibitors, which reduce stomach acid."
