E.D. Books as a holiday gift!

It's that time of year again, isn't it? Chestnuts are roasting, carolers are singing, trees are being trimmed, and eggnog is being slurped.

In holiday seasons past, I've discussed how difficult the holidays can be for someone who is struggling with an eating disorder. Here are a few of them: HOPING FOR HAPPY HOLIDAYS, MERRY STRESSMAN AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!, and SURVIVING THE HOLIDAYS!.

So rather than offer another the holidays can be difficult article, this year I'm going to give you a great list of books on the subject of eating disorders. So, while you run from store to store trying to find just the right gift, keep in mind that books are always a great gift.... and books about eating disorders can only educate and inform people about this very serious subject. I've mentioned some of these books in past articles, and some of them are new.

THE SECRET LANGUAGE OF EATING DISORDERS: The Revolutionary Approach to Understanding and Curing Anorexia and Bulimia. by Peggy Claude-Pierre. You may be familiar with Peggy Claude-Pierre. She has helped her own two daughters recover from anorexia, and is the director of Canada's controversial Montreaux Clinic. A reader-reviewer at BARNES & NOBLE writes of this book: "This book is for anyone who continues their struggle to understand eating disorders, despite popular theories and traditional treatment strategies offered. I am truly amazed how the author has been able to unscramble the mind of an eating disorder victim to determine the true cause and develop an effective treatment strategy to cure this disease."

WASTED: A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia by Marya Hornbacher, details the author's long struggle with eating disorders. A reader-reviewer at, BARNES & NOBLE says "Hornbachers writing is altogether amazing. Words fail to describe how well she explains her self-tortured life and brings you into her world where everything was once its mirrored parallel. I used to hate reading-I read Wasted in two days, and twice in the same month. This book is an absolute must read"

STICK FIGURE: A Diary of my former self by Lori Gottlieb, follows the authors complicated adolesence. Another BARNES & NOBLE reader writes "Personally, I was struck by the intelligence tha Gottlieb held at such a young age and yet what a difference maturity makes. Most frightening is the way that she rationalizes all of her dieting making something so scary and dangerous as anorexia come forth for what it truelly is- a devishly twisting frame of mind. this book is amazingly powerful and really reminds us of how easily we can convince ourselves to do anything, including bad things"
