Online Support© Heather Mudgett.
So you acknowledge you have a problem. Be it anorexia, bulimia, compulsive overeating, or another degree of eating disorder, you realize you are out of control. If you aren't sure what direction to take to begin your journey on the road to recovery, you may want to begin by exploring support and recovery options online.
A great place to start is HealthyPlace.com. In addition to regularly scheduled eating disorder online support group meetings, they also have a number of chat rooms available. Another good site to visit is Power-Nutrition.com. Owned by Annette Colby PhD RD LD, the site offers great information about finding your way to recovery, office and/or phone appointments, as well as a wonderful (and free!) weekly email newsletter. Always a favorite of mine, Something-Fishy.org has a variety of options. They have links to monthly chats with well known recovery facilities such as the Renfrew Center and the Mirasol Center. They also offer a number of other schduled chats including Compulsive Overeating, Family & Friends, and Abuse. In addition, there are bulletin boards, ICQand AIM(instant-messaging) support lists, and their own email newsletter. Transformations.com offers a variety of chat rooms, message boards, events and information. They also offer their own online webzine Chrysalis. Eating-Disorders.com is a site run by St. Joseph Medical Center, one of the most comprehensive programs in the United States for treating eating disorders. In addition to general information about eating disorders, they also have a chat board and information about the services at their center. One good place to find links to information and support is the Grant Me The Serenity site. Another is the Eating Disorder Referral & Information Center site, which offers a great deal of general information, treatment options, and referral assistance. SacredHunger Sacred Hunger is a spiritual, educational program that utilizes the symptoms of eating disorders, food and weight dissatisfaction, addictions and codependency to evolve the wounded self into its highest spiritual yearnings. At this site, you will find books & tapes, online courses, teleconference calls, workshops and retreats, teleclasses, as well as individual coaching. edFree is a site which offers different levels of online support. This site is currently undergoing a few changes, but when it's up and running correctly, it's a wonderful resource for online support. Feedingourselves.com offers a series of workshops, geared to assist members in gaining insight into their overeating and bodyimage difficulties and develop coping skills. Go To Page: 1 2
