I recently came accross a great new health site which I wanted to let you all know about. ZAPHEALTH.COM is a one-of-a-kind health and lifestyle portal for the Internet Generation with an entire section devoted to EATING DISORDERS including anorexia and bulimia. ZAPHEALTH covers eating disorders through articles and interactive features generated by a team of respected, qualified health professionals, medical journalists and youth advocates. What makes the ZAPHEALTH site unique though is that it is designed specifically for a youthful audience, with information presented in a clear, easy-to-understand manner that allows young adults to get answers to questions that they might have otherwise been embarrassed to ask. In addition, ZapHealth contains interactive features such as bulletin boards and chat rooms, as well as their new ZapStore, an online pharmacy containing over 4,000 products relevant to the Internet Generation. ZAPHEALTH is also proud to announce that we will be making charitable donations on behalf of the first 20,000 people who register for our online newsletter. ZapHealth has received Health on the Net and VeriSign certifications and has been featured in such publications as the Wall Street Journal and the LA Times. The site has also been recognized as both the Yahoo and Netscape Site of the Day. AtHealth.com has posted an interesting interview with Dr. J. Kevin Thompson. Dr. Thompson is the author of Body Image Disturbance: Assessment and Treatment (Pergamon Press, 1990) and edited Body Image, Eating Disorders, and Obesity : An Integrative Guide to Assessment and Treatment (American Psychological Association, 1996). He is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Eating Disorders. The interview focuses on the problem of Body Dysmorphic Disorder, which is essentially a seriously disordered body image. You'll find the interview at BODY IMAGE Were you aware that there is a seciton of Suite101.com which is focused soley on anorexia? Contributing Editor Mark Stuart Ellison, writes from the perspective of a son who has spent years coping with an anorexic mother. His articles and links are both helpful and interesting. Please visit his pages at ANOREXIA AT SUITE101.COM. Ok.... now on to some news... Reuters Health reported recently, that research is suggesting that athletes are more likely to suffer from eating disorders than non-athletes. But, they pondered, are certain atheletes more susceptible than others? Read this article at ATHLETES AND EATING DISORDERS. In separate news, the weight loss & body building drug, EPHEDRA, an herbal stimulant used by millions of Americans for bodybuilding and weight loss, reportedly can cause catastrophic complications, including heart attacks, stroke, seizures and death. Read more about these recent findings at the ABC News DEADLY SUPPLEMENT page, and CNN's POPULAR SUPPLEMENT RED FLAGGED.
