Well worth a listen...

As I sat at work, fighting my way through an endless stack of paperwork, I heard a radio interview with a musician named Jill Sobule. You may be familiar with Jill Sobule.... she sings the song I KISSED A GIRL, and SUPERMODEL. So, what does this have to do with eating disorders? Well, while in the radio studio and on the air, she pulled out her guitar and played a few of her songs. One song in particular, really struck a chord with me. It's called LUCY AT THE GYM, and here are the lyrics: Lucy at the gym She's there every time I go, and I don't go that often, so she must live at the gym I stare at her ribs they show through the spandex Her little legs are working, she's going somewhere She's climbing up the stairs And when she reaches the top her dreams will be there Lucy at the gym Lucy on the scale for the third time Thru thick and thin, Lucy's at the gym She's staring at the clock and like the 2nd hand she never stops She's Lucy at the gym When she takes a shower, after all the hours Does she have a place to go Is there someone waiting Or is Lucy all alone I'm at the gym and Lucy's not there It's got me kinda worried so I imagine the worst She's made it up to heaven And when she met her maker, he said "come right in" "I'll show you around the gym" "Everyone's beautiful and thin" "And here there's no sin, Just reading the lyrics doesn't do this song justice. This song will be on her new CD, titled "Pink Pearl", and it is scheduled to be released on April 18, 2000. You can pre-order the cd at AMAZON.COM To learn more about Jill Sobule, you can visit her website JILLSOBULE.COM So, what are some other songs that seem to deal with an eating disorder specifically, or recovery in general? Well, the first time I heard Alanis Morrisette's "THANK U", I immediately thought..."That woman has definitely been through some sort of therapy!" While it may not be directly related to eating disorders, I couldn't help but relate to the lyrics. Here are the lyrics: THANK U how bout getting off these antibiotics? how bout stopping eating when I'm full up? how bout them transparent dangling carrots? how bout that ever elusive kudo? thank you india thank you terror thank you disillusionment thank you frailty thank you consequence thank you thank you silence how bout me not blaming you for everything?
