Judy Sargent is a graduate student in her early 30's. The Long Road Back is an account of her struggle with and triumph over anorexia nervosa. During her battle, she was hospitalized some 26 times, including several stays in the intensive care unit. Now in recovery, Sargent is working on her masters degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. About her book, Sargent says "I wrote the book with the hope that it will offer individuals currently suffering from an eating disorder, family members, friends, and therapists insight, compassionate understanding, and hope. Unlike so many other accounts, my book provides a hopeful and uplifting journey through the recovery process." Amazon.com has posted a few reviews of the book (although it has yet to be released). One reader writes "Judy Sargent's "Long Road Back: A Survivors Guide to America" is a personal journey of one woman's triumph over Anorexia and her experiences within the in/out-patient care system available to those with Eating Disorders. There is strength and inspiration to be found in this true story, including examples that signify the persistence of this disease. The honest, forthright portrayal of hospitalization was illuminating. This is a book every health-care provider/caretaker, focused on Eating Disorders, should read. Those dealing with Eating Disorders in their personal lives, as well as family and friends, will find this book motivational; a frank depiction of life lived within the disorder, with a positive, uplifting ending. Judy leaves us feeling as though we all have a chance. If she can do it, so can we." Another reader writes that Sargent's book is "An honest account from pain and lonliness to hope and survival The author shares her courageous story of being lost in an eating disorder, going in and out of hospitals, and yet learning to find her way out and ultimately save herself. the author does a great job at giving the reader a sense of what it is like to be trapped in the grip of an eating disorder while providing hope and healing. a story of hope for anyone with an eating disorder.
