Finding Eating Disorder Information Online

If you've read any of my PREVIOUS ARTICLES, or browsed through my LINKS PAGE, you've probably realized that there is a huge amount of information about eating disorders available online.

There seems to be a few different types of websites and/or webpages. There are those which belong to a Corporation or Organization. Examples of these are The Overeaters Anonymous Site (OA), The Anorexia Nervosa and Related Disorders Site (ANRED), The Eating Disorder Recovery Group (MIRROR-MIRROR) and The American Anorexia & Bulimia Site (AABA).

All of these certainly offer a good deal of general information about anorexia, bulimia and related disorders. They also may offer chat rooms, discussion boards, treatment ideas and/or referral services. While all of this is important, I have found that I prefer the more personal atmosphere of some of sites which are written and maintained by recovering eating disorder patients and/or people who have otherwise been affected by eating disorders (i.e., friends & family).

The following are some of these more personal sites I've come across which I believe you will appreciate.

SOMETHING FISHY is a wonderful site, with a multitude of information. Originated by a recovering anorexic and her husband, this site offers a huge number of links, chat rooms, and online support.

HUNGER PAINS is a site dedicated to "Learning and Understanding Eating Disorders. This site is also developed and maintained by a recovering anorexic.

FED-UP!is a great site maintained by a gradutate student from Toronto who has struggled with an eating disorder for many years. Her site is well done, and provides much information and many good links.

UNBINDING THE BODY BETRAYED is an outstanding website run by an anorexia/bulimia survivor. Eating disorder information and an eating disorder chat are available. Also has many links, as well as a number of excellent webrings.

HAZEL is an interesting site by a man with an eating disorder. His specific disorder is compulsive overeating, but he explores anorexia and bulimia as well. I'll warn you that on my most recent visit to his page, his information came up in a very odd format, so his site may be under construction.

JUDY SARGENT's site offers many resources for people looking for support. Sargent is the author of the soon to be released book THE LONG ROAD BACK, A SURVIVOR'S GUIDE TO ANOREXIA.

ABANDONDED BELIEFS is an offering from another recovering anorexic. She paints an honest and painful picture of her struggle, and also provides recovery tools, a links page, and much more.
