Although the internet can be a tremendous source of information on most any subject, many of us still find it is no substitute for an old fashioned book.

To that regard, the following is a list of books you may find both helpful and interesting as you expand your knowledge and understanding of eating disorders.

Along these lines, a few of the many documentary pieces which have been on television over the past few years, are now available on video. While not necessarily the Saturday night with popcorn & soda type of film, these might be an interesting addition to a psychology or sociology class or to watch with an eating disorder support group.

NOVA - DYING TO BE THIN In 2000 Nova presented this somewhat graphic look at eating disorders.

TROUBLE IN MIND: EATING DISORDERS A 1999 PBS program focusing on anorexia and bulimia.

PERFECT ILLUSIONS: EATING DISORDERS AND THE FAMILY. This 2002 program follows four families who have been impacted by eating disorders. It is narrated and hosted by Lauren Hutton.

ANOREXIA & BULIMIA Originally released in 1999, this is an informative introduction to the dangerous cycles of anorexia and bulimia.

THE BEST LITTLE GIRL IN THE WORLD. Jennifer Jason Leigh stars in this 1981 adaptation of Steven Levenkron's best selling book about one young girl's battle with eating disorder. For many people, this (and Karen Carpenter's tragic death) were a first introduction to eating disorders.

AMERICA UNDERCOVER - DEAD BLUE Ok, so this HBO feature is actually about surviving depression. While not directly an eating disorder program, depression is often a serious component of an eating disorder, thus it's being included in this list.
