Drinks Month - Champagne

The Drinks Index lists some great recipes for champagne cocktails. I personally never did like champagne until I acually tried these amazing cocktails.

Of course, it did take a great deal of selective shopping to stock up ingredients for a week of champagne drinking. No, I did not get sloshed every night. One small drink a night was the limit. You'll notice, the Basic Cocktail is the simplest to make. It tastes very intereseting with the contrasting flavors.

BASIC CHAMPAGNE COCKTAIL

1 sugar lump
few dashes of Angostura Bitters
Champagne to top up

Place a lump of sugar in a wine glass and saturate it with Angostura bitters. Add a lump of ice and top up with Champagne. Add a twist of lemon peel and decorate with an orange slice.

PADDY'S NIGHT

1 measure Green Creme de menthe
1 measure Irish Whiskey
Champagne to top up

Shake the ingredients well with ice and strain into a large wine glass. Top up with Champagne to serve.

CALIFORNIA DREAMING

2 dashes of Kirsch
3 measures of Pineapple juice
1 dash of lemon juice
Champagne to top up

Put the ingredients in an electric blender with a few ice cubes and blend for 30 seconds. Pour into a wine glass and top up with Champagne. Decorate with pineapple.

This last one requires elaborate prepping but the end result is so pretty; a fizzy, yellow sunshine kind of drink that you'll just get sloshed on!
