Celebrating In
Hosting a shindig in gives you lots of scope for fun. It can be a meal, a buffet of various snacks, a film night, a game night, a costume party, whatever your heart desires.

Food
Whether you aim to please with a full sit-down meal or a snacky buffet, find de-lish Irish recipes that will fit your schedule and budget. Here are some useful recipe sites to get your party-planning vibe going:

If time is short, but the spirit is there, order ready-to-serve dishes (garner some ideas for the types of dishes you'd like to order from some of the recipe sites above) from your local Irish pub or neighborhood supermarket. Pop everything onto simple serving dishes, et voila! Insta-Irish nibbles.

Music & Decor
Set the tone with subdued(for a grown-up party) or more colorful decor (for a raucous do) and the right blend of background tunes.

A subtle St. Pat's party might call for white tablecloths (use white flat bedsheets in a pinch) with a simple centerpiece of potted green herbs along a muted green table runner down the center of the table. Many supermarket floral shops are carrying a "shamrock" plant which usually sells for less than $10 a pot. Pick up a few for decor and offer them up at the end of the night as prizes to your trivia (or best costume, or best Irish toast, or most green) winners. There's a wide range of contemporary Irish (or Celtic-flavored) music to help along the atmosphere. A few recommendations: The Pogues, Sinead O'Connor, The Commitments, The Cranberries, U2, Loreena McKennitt, Teenage Fanclub, Lick the Tins, Enya, Van Morrison, Shane MacGowan, Hothouse Flowers, My Bloody Valentine, and Dexys Midnight Runners.
