The Second Opium War




On my first visit to Beijing, I visited the imperial sites as the only westerner in a tour. The Chinese travel guide pointed out where these crimes were committed. 'Here the British burned down the Summer Palace, there the British stored the opium they sold to Chinese people' and so on. History comes back to haunt the descendants of criminals.
