Creative Calendars

Here’s a gift idea that’s practical, personal, and inexpensive. You can make this gift yourself and give it to everyone on your New Year’s Holiday list.

You’ll need:
one (12 months) calendar (8 ½ x 11 or smaller) of the new year coming
a piece of cardboard (one sheet of bristle board can be cut into four equal pieces)
glue
scissors
collage materials ex: feathers, stickers, ribbons, leaves, pictures
glitter
magazines, flyers, newspapers,...
a hole puncher
and string.

What to do:
Step 1- Glue your calendar in the middle of your cardboard.
Step 2- Spread a thin layer of glue on the visible part of the bristle board.
Step 3- Decorate all sides with your collage materials.
Step 4- Once dry, punch two holes at the top and attach a piece of string for hanging.

These make great New Year’s gifts for grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, teachers, friends...

The creative calendar can be matched with each person on your list. If your uncle is a computer consultant-make one with various pictures of computer equipment. If your aunt loves birds-you can glue bird pictures, and bird seed for a special effect. If your younger sibling loves cartoons-use the comics from Sunday’s paper. The possibilities are endless. You can also underline special anniversaries and birthdays, and don’t forget to make one for yourself.

Happy New Year!

Marie-Helen this is a wonderful idea! I think we'll try this for our homeschooling/preschooling lessons. My mother would love something like this and my artsy son would love making it.
