It's the beginning of August and not all the children are back to school. Here you'll find summer fun filled activities to do with your children at home on vacation, daycare or daycamp.

Body Art

Bottle of baby shampoo
tempra paint

Divide the baby shampoo in small containers ( ½ cup per container) add different tempra paints in each and mixed to desired colors. Using paint brushes have the children paint on each other's arms, legs, and back. Body painting should be done outside and near running water for easy and refreshing clean ups.

Rock Pet

Rock (about the size of an egg)
pictures from magazines
modge-podge
paint brushes

Have the children clean off their rock and let it dry. Paint modge-podge on rock and glue pictures chosen. Re-paint with modge-podge, the rock will be white until the modge=podge dries clear. Use rock as a paper weight or turn it into their favorite pet.

Sandy Art

Construction paper and crayons
Sand and glue

Let children draw a picture (writer letters) on a construction paper. Let them spread glue over or around their drawing and slowly pour sand on the glue. Let the drawing dry, you can ad powdered tempra paint to the sand to make colorful sand.

Bad Hair Day

Grass seeds
potting soil
planting pot
nylons (any size - any color)
paint (acrylic) and brushes

Place the grass seeds at the bottom of the nylon stocking. Fill the nylon with soil, attach and turn over. Deposit the shape onto a planting pot and paint a face using the acrylic paints. Place on a windowsill and water it daily. Watch the "hair" grow and once it's long enough "give it a cut". Don't forget to name your new characters and make up stories about them with your children.

Spider's Web

a paper plate
a hole puncher
a piece of yarn or string (about 3 feet)
crayons

Let child draw a spider on the plate. Take hole puncher and make holes all around the edges of the plates. Use yarn to weave in and out, up and down or side to side. Once child is finished with string, add a second one for variation. Draws bugs caught n the web.
