Baker's Dozen - Summer Time Fun Recipes

AH! The dinner table! What memories are made there. Difficult situations worked out on, a celebration feast, a deep discussion or meetings held, the dinner table is the place to be. Preparing, cooking, or eating food, what kind of table would it be if it wasn't decorated with food? The preschool/daycare table is no exception. You'll find discussions, eating, celebrations, eating, creativity, eating and lots and eating! To help you enjoy your table- I've listed 13 of my favorite summer time recipes to make and enjoy in your program.

Ships-Ahoy
6 cheese slices (cut diagonally to make 12 triangles)
6 apples (cut in half and cored)
12 toothpicks
Weave the toothpick through the cheese slice to make the sail. Poke the toothpick into the apple to make a sailboat.

Pita Surprise
pita bread
bananas
peanut butter
toothpicks
Spread the peanut butter onto the pita bread. Place a peeled banana on the peanut butter and roll the pita bread. Use a toothpick the keep the pita rolled. Change the spread or the fruit as you wish.

Carrot and Raisin Salad
2 cups of shredded carrots
½ cup of raisins
juice of a small lemon
2 Tablespoons of sugar
a dash of salt
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and serve.

Peanut Pudding
1 package of regular vanilla pudding
2 cups of milk
peanut butter (crunchy works great)
Prepare pudding as directed on package. Pour pudding into individual bowls but before the pudding sets, stir in a tablespoon of peanut butter (for each).

S'mores
A package of graham crackers
A dozen mill chocolate bars
1 bag of large marshmallows
Put ½ chocolate (4 squares) onto ½ a graham crackers. Place a hot marshmallow (8 seconds in the microwave) on top of the chocolate and top with other half of the graham cracker.

Kabobs
1 cantaloupe
1 honey melon
1 can of ham
1lb of cheddar cheese (block)
toothpicks
Scoop balls in the cantaloupe and melon. Cut up the cheese and ham in cubes. Poke the ingredients on a toothpick.

Butter
whipping cream
salt
a baby food jar
Pour cream in jar and shake the whipping cream using your hands. As the cream thickens into butter, add a little a salt. Spread onto your rainbow toast.

Rainbow Toast
a loaf of bread
1 pint of milk
good coloring
Pour milk into several little cups and tint with food coloring. Using new paint brushes paint designs onto the bread. Place on a cookie sheet and toast in the oven. Serve with your butter and enjoy a colorful snack.

Fruit Cup
1 quart of raspberries (cleaned)
1 quart of blueberries (cleaned and stemmed)
a few bananas (peeled and sliced)
Serve the fruits in cups, change the fruits according to taste or availability.
