Feather Trees A Christmas tree made of goose feathers? To some, it may sound like something out of a fairy tale, but they were actually the first artificial Christmas tree. Introduced in Germany, and sold in America until 1940, these trees were a popular piece in the holiday house. Almost twig like in appearance (remember Charlie Brown's tree?), these trees were handcrafted as a cottage industry in their native country. Today, not only origionals, but newly made feather trees are again a highly sought after folk art piece. They are perfect for antique ornaments and table tops, mantles or window seats, although larger ones are being made.
