Early America, IntroductioneEarly America. We study it in school, read about it in books and magazines, collect it, restore it, reproduce it and yes, some of us even still live in it, in one way or another. We might be museum guides or players, artisans practicing an almost forgotten craft or the proud owner of a 200 year old home. If you fit into one or more of the above catagories (or one that wasn't, but fits), then this is the site for you. As today's trends go more and more high tech and fast paced, some of still try to hold on to a simpler way of living. Not always easier, but less complicated and more relaxing. So whether you are a practicing artisan, collector, preservationist or are just a history buff, you can find it here. For example: many of us stencil or have stenciling in our homes. But what was the purpose of it? Have you ever heard of "leather britiches"? (Hint- it's a food.)How about sources for restoring or building a period home? Or, maybe you just want to read a little history. At some point, it will be covered. Reader participation is encouraged through topic and link suggestions, as well as your questions. So sit back, relax and remember: Come in as visitor, leave as a friend and return often!
