This report is a joint effort of the Center for Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) and the Office for the Advancement of Telehealth, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). It was produced to inform Federal, State and local mental health administrators about options for utilizing telecommunication and information technologies to improve the delivery of mental health services to rural and frontier populations.

Slashmed (http://slashmed.org/topics.shtml): Slashmed.org is run by an enthusiastic bunch of people interested in the overlap of IT and medicine. This field has many names and slashmed welcomes them all.... everything from e-health to cybermedicine to medical informatics to telemedicine to telecare to telediagnostics. Most of the participants are medical doctors or medical students. Any and all interested in joining the team should contact mug@slashmed.org

They would then report to a clinic to have the necessary work done, and later read the results online. The tests were ordered and carried out with no physician involvement. Partners Offers Online Consultations: Partners HealthCare System Inc., Boston, has launched a Web site enabling physicians to obtain Internet-based consultations from Partners specialists. Consultations obtained through the site, www.partners.org/econsult, are permitted in 26 states. The Web site includes a list of excluded states and territories.
