E-books for Children© Richard Loeffler
I wrote about Time Warner AOL about a year ago when they were going into electronic publishing in a big way with the iread.com, iwrite.com and ipublish.com. This week, ipublish.com finally went live. It's a great site for new authors to get some advice and exposure. The site is large and will take a while for anyone to explore it fully but I think it is worth the time for any aspiring new writer with something to show.
In a nutshell it works like this (but there is more to the site), you read and rate three pieces by other authors on the site and then you can submit a piece of your own. So it's very interactive. There are reviewing guidelines for you to follow and tons of information for writers. Like I said, it's too big to try to explain here. Visit http://www.ipublish.com and look at it for yourself. While I'm on the topic of Time Warner, let me mention that their affiliate http://www.ipicturebooks.com, which was launched in February, now has over 200 e-books for children. The titles are aimed at children aged 6 months to 10 years old. The idea behind this is to get kids reading books on computer and hopefully the investment will pay off in the years to come. If children begin reading on screen, then they will not have to make the leap to it later in life as most of us have had to do. It's a smart move on Time Warner's part. So smart in fact, that Random House has teamed up with Sesame Street to release 10 picture e-books featuring Elmo and other Sesame Street characters. Simon and Schuster is also aiming its sights at the children's market by releasing the winners of the Newberry Medal awards for literature from its backlist along with 30 other titles. Who was it that said, "Give me your children when they are six and I will have them for the rest of their lives"? Go To Page: 1
