Spring in January

Feeling down because of bad weather? Is your house gloomy? Are you snowed in with not much to do? Are the kids bored? Is it just to darn cold to go outside?

If you answered "yes" to any of the above, then do I have a craft project for you!

Sitting her in sunny Florida with a morning temperature of 32 degrees (brrr) forecast for the next 2 days, it made me ponder what type of crafting project we could do for those of you in really cold and frosty weather. Here's what I came up with. Now I know it's January and we're a couple of months away from spring but this little project is sure to brighten up any gloomy day, keep you inside snug and warm and if you have kids, this will give them something to do that's lots of fun.

We're going to make spring themed, flower filled, hand painted, clay pots that you can sit in your windowsill, on your desk, kitchen table, fireplace mantle or anyplace where you'd like to share some warmth and sunshine.

Supplies needed are: · Clay pots - large, or small. If you have some in your garage not being used, bring them out. · Paint - Select the colors you want to use and pick the type of paint that will best adhere to clay. Don't forget your paintbrushes! Snippet: If your kids have favorite decals, they can be used instead of actual paint. · Acrylic sealer - Use this after the paint has dried to seal it. You can also use it to seal decals but be sure to check the directions before using it, just in case. · Craft foam · Moss · Dried flowers - Utilize those bits and pieces you have left over from other projects. As I've suggested many times, these little pieces come in handy when doing a project like this. · Dried flowers - Suggest any straw flower, tarwe, wheat, poa, galaxy gyp, baby's breath, etc. Just be colorful! · Silk flowers - Same as above. If you have some extras or pieces, this is the time to bring them out of storage. · Silk Ivy - optional. · Ribbon - Various colors. Optional · Magnets - Very tiny ones. Something that could be hot glued to the side of the pot for decoration. · Glue gun and sticks - Optional. If needed to secure flowers, ribbons or magnets · Scissors or craft clippers to snip flower ends · Newspaper, paper towels, wet sponge

First and most important, lay out the newspaper to protect the surface you'll be working on from paint and glue and it also makes it easier to capture all those little snippets of flowers! Set up two work areas, one for painting and one for decorating.
