April in Florida and the Critters are Hungry! The idea is really simple. First, just for color and to attract the passersby, stick the wheat shafts all around the base. Try to insert them into the base, if possible, then secure with twine or string. Do not use glue as the birds and squirrels might inadvertently try to eat it! Place the moss in the cradle of the wreath. Make it full as this is where you will put the sunflower and peanut containers. Secure the moss with twine. Securing the food containers and perches is a little trickier. Perches - Take a Popsicle stick and insert a small hole near one end. Take a piece of wire (apx. 12" to 14") and pull it through the hole a couple of inches. Take the shortest end of the wire and wrap it once around the stick and then twist to secure. Take the remaining wire and wrap around the wreath base leaving 2-3" of wire to twist around the base. What you want is to attach the Popsicle stick as securely as possible to the wreath so the birds will have a perch and can reach the food. Using hot glue, reinforce the stick where it rests on the wreath. Containers - If you're using plastic containers such as yogurt cups, put a small hole in the bottom of the container. You will need to cut a piece of wire that is long enough to wrap around the wreath base 2 to 3 times. Pull the wire through the hole then tie a piece of twig or Popsicle stick to the end of the wire to create an anchor inside the container. Pull the wire tight so that the anchor is tight against the inside of the container. You will be placing the containers on top of the perches you just created. Before placing the containers, put enough hot glue on top of the perch to hold the container snugly. Be careful that none of the glue oozes out from under the container where it will be exposed to the critters. When you have it secured tightly, wrap the remaining wire around the base as tightly as possible leaving a couple of inches of wire. Take these last couple of inches and intertwine with wire on the base. Water containers - Secure these with wire and hot glue to the front or sides of the wreath but close enough to the
