Statice and Potpourri Wreath

Okay, okay, I know. You're saying to yourself, "she has finally flipped out, how in the world can she say statice and potpourri in the same sentence with wreath?"

I promised in my last article that I would share with you all one of my very favorite wreaths, hunter green statice on a grapevine wreath with mulberry potpourri as a focal point.

When I first started creating wreaths a few years ago, I bought a book on crafting wreaths filled with beautiful designs. I replicated some of them, deviated a little on others and ventured off in my own designs.

My use of potpourri came into play when I decided I wanted to make scented wreaths. I have various fragrances, (they all smell soooooooo good) and what I do is hot glue a layer of potpourri to the wreath base, then place a thin layer of moss over the potpourri. Once that is done, then I begin "building" the wreath. The fragrance lasts for months and it's so nice to get a whiff of vanilla or rose or whatever you're favorite fragrance of choice.

Now, one of my absolutely all time favorite fragrances of potpourri is mulberry. This very aromatic concoction has a deep and long lasting aroma that permeates any area and one of my favorite creations to make is a grapevine wreath, utilizing mulberry potpourri and deep hunter green statice.

I wanted to do something unique with the potpourri and so I started designing flowers out of the pieces of potpourri. As you know, in the bags there are numerous varieties of flowers, leaves, petals, buds, cones, pods, wood shavings and little pieces of flowers that I can't even name.

To make this wreath with the mulberry potpourri design requires one important ingredient, imagination. I can tell you how to go about making the basic wreath but the flower design is entirely up to you. Don't be afraid to experiment; use multiple flower pieces and combinations of colors. You are only as limited as you allow yourself to be so go forth and design!!

You will need a grapevine wreath you choose the size, hunter green statice, moss, mulberry potpourri, hunter green 1/4" ribbon, hot glue gun.

First, and this is optional, you can hot glue a thin layer of potpourri on the top of wreath base then cover with moss. Once it's cool, take the green ribbon and wrap over and under and all the way around the wreath leaving about a two-inch space between the ribbon as you wrap it. When you get back to where you started with the ribbon, tie a tight knot. The ribbon helps hold the potpourri and the moss in place and adds to the overall look of the wreath.
