Miniature Easter Baskets

Holidays are a time when most people like to share the spirit of the season with others. Not only do we celebrate with our families but also with friends and co-workers. Nearly every place I have ever worked, when a holiday approached, everyone had decorations and goodies at their respective desks. Easter is by no means an exception!

Starting out this year we have already celebrated with the red hearts of Valentine's Day and the green four leaf clovers of St. Patrick's Day. And now, April, with its beautiful pastel rainbow colors of Easter.

This little project is perfect for decoration and extra perfect as little gifts for co-workers.

All you need are miniature baskets (3"). They come in colors but if you're unable to find them, just spray paint with yellow, pink, blue or light green paint. You'll need Easter grass (pink, yellow, green). A piece of crafter's foam. Straw flowers (pink, yellow, blue, green), statice (lavender, mauve, blue), larkspur (purple), baby's breath (off white), ribbon 1/4"(multi colors), miniature bunnies and chicks (plastic or cloth), glue gun.

If you need to spray paint the baskets, do this outside so there is plenty of ventilation. If you want, you can also hand paint little designs on the baskets using a very small artist's brush. Be sure the painted baskets are completely dry before you begin decorating. For extra decoration, you can cut out tiny stencils to create Easter designs.

Cut a piece of foam to fit snugly (but not too tight) inside the basket then fill in all around and over the top with Easter grass. Place the bunny or chick inside the basket. (If you have the type you can stick into the foam, great, if not, place a small amount of hot glue on the bottom of the decoration then press in place against the foam. Hold for several seconds until the glue has a chance to set.

Next, select an assortment of colored flowers (leave baby's breath till last) and insert them into the foam. Fill the basket with lots of color and place your flowers at varying heights or place them at the same height and very full. Be creative so that you have an assortment of style and color.

Once you have the focal flowers positioned the way you want them, add the baby's breath to fill in and to add fullness. The last step is to create bows using the ribbon. Make small tie-bows and then hot glue onto the handle of the basket, on the sides, or both. Use individual colors or make a rainbow, the choice is up to you!
