Last Minute Halloween Decorations

It’s the day before Halloween and all though the house not a creature is stirring not even the Big Pumpkin!

If you’re planning a party or get together and you want to add a few simple, quick and easy decorations to your festive table, try these two quick-as-a-snap ideas.

First, purchase the smallest grapevine wreaths available, approximately 2” in width. Weave orange and black ΒΌ” ribbon throughout the ribs then tie a bow. Using small bits and pieces of festive fall leaves and/or straw flowers bundle together and hot glue onto the wreath. You can cover the glue and stems by tying or gluing an additional bow on top. These little wreaths can be used as place card holders. Lay the wreath flat, place a small dab of glue on top and on each side of the wreath, then “set” your place card and hold till glue dries. You can embellish around the card with more bits and pieces of flowers and leaves if you like. Second option is to use the wreath as a napkin holder. After glue is dry, carefully pull napkin through the center and voila, a festive napkin ring.

If you have read or tried my craft project using cornucopias, you know how versatile these little baskets can be.

To add to your table setting or enhance your centerpiece or to just place around your house for decoration, take small cornucopias, place a miniature pumpkin (real or use small painted or ceramic pumpkins with cut out faces) at the mouth (you can secure with a small dollop of glue) and fill in behind and around with fall leaves and foliage. If you’re fortunate enough to have the real thing, use them! Otherwise a variety of silk leaves are available at your local craft store. Try http://www.joannfabrics.com for an assorted selection. Place a piece of foam at the base of the basket and insert the leaf stems for a secure hold. Again embellish with fall flowers or additional Indian corn or squash. The nice thing about these is you can change out the pumpkin, if you want, in a couple of weeks and add more leaves and flowers and add some of your favorite seasonal potpourri.

Both of these projects are fun for the whole family and besides being quick and easy they’re sure to add an extra touch to your holiday festivities.

Enjoy and till next time, Happy Craftoween!
