Well, here we are again almost at the end of summer and I'm asking myself, 'where did the time go'? I was thinking about putting together a really pretty basket with multiple color larkspurs and statice and realized that I need to be thinking about fall colors. Time definitely flies when you're having a good time especially when you're creating beautiful arrangements! And it's easy to forget other parts of the country are experiencing different weather than what we have here in sunny Florida.
So, with that in mind, I'm changing my plan in mid-stream, so to speak, and I hope you like it. Each season has its advantages and fall is no exception. The variety and abundance of flowers combined with the brilliant colors available makes every creation a true vision. With this particular arrangement we will once again combine dried flowers and silk flowers. Supplies suggested for this arrangement but feel free to use your own favorites: · White Statice (apx 25-30) · Blue or purple larkspur (apx 30 to 40) · Off-white Amaranth (apx 12) · White strawflowers (apx 20) · Orange strawflowers (apx 25) · White Baby's Breath (apx 12 pieces) · Silk flowers (you select type and color, but needs to be of med. size) (apx 15-20) Ex. Zinnias, Dahlias, Petunias · Grass stems (30-40) · Spanish moss · Floral foam · Container apx 8-10 inches in diameter · Clippers · Adhesive tape Cut and place the floral foam inside the mouth of the container. Be sure it's secure and is a little taller than the top of the container. Once fitted and secure, cover with moss. You will want to create an outline of the overall arrangement. To do this, insert the grass stems all the way around the base of the bowl. Next, insert the larkspur. Since these flowers are tall and thin, they will help define the outline. The next flower to insert will be the white statice. These flowers are so versatile and they add the filler needed for those all to often "empty" spaces. Next, strategically place the large primary silk flowers. These flowers will be the focal point of the arrangement. Last step, fill in with amaranth and strawflowers. Once you have the first layer of flowers in place and arranged to your liking, go back and add additional grass so that it is dispersed throughout the arrangement. Place more strawflowers and amaranth to balance the overall creation. The arrangement is designed to be very full with lots of color. It will definitely brighten up any room. Continue adding flowers and grass stems until your container is full and you have achieved the look you desire. Suggestions for containers, depending on the colors you choose, could be something unusual in glass. A decorative Japanese or Chinese type bowl with a design in the same colors as your primary flower would be ideal or a solid color like deep emerald green, dark blue or deep purple would also enhance the colors of the arrangement. If you prefer a basket, that's fine too. Don't be afraid to experiment! Go To Page: 1 2
