Wheat and Wild ArrangementThis week I have a really simple but lovely dried flower arrangement idea. I have many favorite flower types and also enjoy working with grasses, oats, avena and wheat sheaves. They remind me of open fields with tall stalks gently bending in the warm morning breeze while the sunlight enhances their golden color. Adding a variety of wild flowers to the mix adds a splash of rainbow colors that compliments the subtle tones. Supplies needed for this project are: · Wheat stalks (small arrangement equals approximately 150 stalks) · Assortment of dried flowers · Raffia (natural color) · Twine · Paper bow (optional) A few suggestions for flowers you might like to use are yellow button flowers, daisies, blue delphinium, caspia, something bright red such as miniature roses, assorted straw flowers, etc. First, cut five or six pieces of twine 10 to 12 inches long, set aside. Next, gather a large handful of the wheat staggering the height of some of the stalks. Add a few of the dried flowers you've selected. To secure the stalks, take the first of the three pieces of twine and tie beneath the wheat shaft. Tie the second piece around the middle and the third 3 to 4 inches from the base. Continue adding more wheat stalks and flowers at a diagonal and secure with a piece of twine a little over halfway down. Once you have added all the stalks and flowers and created the size of arrangement you want, fan out the wheat stems at the base of the arrangement and cut so that the stems are level. Last step is to tie a large raffia bow around the middle to secure the arrangement. You can also add a large paper bow for color and extra decoration. Once completed, the arrangement can be placed in a earthenware type container for display, the bundle can be lain on a table top or dining room table for decoration or attach a piece of thin wire around the middle (be sure it's not seen) and create a loop to hang the arrangement in an alcove or a brightly lit area. And that's all there is to it. This project is great to do on a rainy day, when you just feel creative or whenever you want to whip something up in a few minutes without too much fuss. It's also a wonderful stress reliever after a hard day at work. Whatever the reason, I hope you enjoy this one; I did, and till next time Happy Crafting!!
