When June arrives, one immediately thinks of orange blossoms and weddings. At the top of the list of things to be decided, is what type of dress or gown the bride will wear. Along with that decision, comes the headdress to compliment the gown. For those of you who plan on designing your own original design, this article is for you.
Throughout history, wreaths have been made from laurel, pine, even thorns. To create your own design is to follow in the steps of Olympians, kings, saints and martyrs. Your creation will be a reflection of your personality and will serve as an heirloom to treasure for years to come. Supplies needed for this project are: custom fitted wire base, floral tape, wire, glue gun if needed, ribbon, assortment of dried flowers such as German statice, baby's breath, straw flowers, dried rose buds, carnations, galaxy gyp, and larkspur. Silk rose buds may be used along with or substituted for the dried buds. The colors you select should compliment both yourself and the gown. First you will need to fashion a simple wire frame, custom-fitted to fit the back of the head. It needs to be secure, not to tight, but snug enough not to slip off. Once the form is made, secure with green floral tape to hold in place. Next, make small clusters of flowers, securing each with wire. Example, take a piece of statice, add straw flowers, piece of galaxy gyp and a rose bud. Continue making clusters, alternating the types of flowers, until you have enough to completely encircle the wire base. Starting at the front of the form, wire the first cluster of flowers onto the base. Continue wiring the individual clusters completely around the form creating the flower wreath. Wire the clusters close together, so there are no gaps or green floral tape showing. You can make the wreath as full as you like. Add bits of flowers throughout for color and balance. Once you complete the wreath, tie a bow of ribbon at the very bottom so that the ribbon strands hand down the back. Use a single bow or make a double bow using two different colors. A suggestion for the bridesmaids would be to take straw hats, the type with a wide brim, encircle the base with ribbon (colors to compliment their attire) letting the strands hang down the back, then hot glue flowers around the base. Use small bits of moss to fill in where necessary. Go To Page: 1 2
