Decorated Jars Using Pressed Flowers

  • Step 1. Make sure the jar or bottle you use is clean and thoroughly dry before use.
  • Step 2. Using your paintbrush, place a small dab of varnish onto the jar where you will place the first flower.
  • Step 3. Using the cotton swab, gently press the flower in place and hold until the varnish dries.
  • Step 4. Following your design, repeat step 2 until you have placed all of the flowers and/or stems. Be careful not to use too much varnish and cause dripping.
  • Step 5. Using a clean paintbrush, apply a thin even coat of varnish over all sides of the jar. This will seal the flowers.
  • Step 6. Allow to dry overnight.
  • Step 7. Using either raffia or ribbon, tie several strands around the neck of the jar in a bow. Trim the ends so they are not too long.
  • And there you have it, a beautifully decorated jar that can be used to hold bath oil or crystals, cotton balls, tea bags, spices, etc. or just place the decorated jar(s) in your kitchen window. To clean them, gently wipe the jar with a damp cloth. Never immerse the jar in water, as this will probably damage the finish.

Be creative with your design and don't be afraid to experiment with flower types and colors. Just remember, once you place the flower with varnish, you won't be able to move it so always put your idea down on paper first to be sure of the desired effect.
