Miniature Christmas Stockings

Here we are, eighteen days until Christmas! If you're like me, and so many others, you're still in need of some simple yet cheerful last minute holiday gifts for a co-worker, a present for your child's teacher or a little something to share at the office party. Maybe you need some extra holiday decorations for the fireplace mantle or Christmas tree or you need something unique and decorative instead of a bow when wrapping that special gift. If any of the above fit your situation, then try your hand at making these quick and easy miniature Christmas stockings. This is a fun project that the whole family can share.

Items you will need for this project are: Felt or Plush Santa stockings (3" to 6"), Gold filigree (can be any dried flower/tree stem-gold tinted), Greenery (dried cedar leaves-gold tinted), Holly berries, small candy canes 6" (real or artificial), Miniature presents, Cinnamon sticks (real), Polyfil (type used for pillows), jingle bell, glue gun and glue sticks.

  1. Stuff with polyfil to the top of the stocking.
  2. Place 2 stems of gold filigree at the left corner of stocking (When holding the stocking, the loop for hanging the stocking should be to your left. If the stockings you are using have no loop, then hold the stocking (facing you) so the stocking toe is pointing to your right. You will need apx. 3" of bare stem to push into the polyfil. You need apx. 3 ½" of leaf (one stem) and apx. 3" of leaf (other stem) showing. In front of the filigree, add greenery, pushing stem into polyfil. Make it a little shorter than the filigree. Insert the end of the glue gun under the polyfil so glue will adhere to the stems and filler.
  3. For stockings without loops, make your own. Either cut a strip of red ribbon or use a strip of red felt material. Make a loop and stitch it to the left outside corner of stocking. You can add a red bow and/or jingle bell to cover up the stitching. For stockings with a loop, follow the same procedure and add bow(s) and bell(s) beneath the loop.
  4. Strategically place and glue small cedar leaves to inside of the front and back rim of stocking.
  5. Fill the center with small bits of filigree, holly berries and miniature presents.
  6. Add a small candy cane and cinnamon sticks to the left corner for balance.
  7. Check your stocking for gaps and especially for balance when you hang it. Make sure it's not top heavy. Add additional presents, holly or filigree to fill in areas.
