This month I wanted to take the opportunity to write a review of Bert Markgraf's e-book, Starting Your Own Business - http://www.north46.com/startingyourownbu...
For anyone considering starting a business of their own, this e-book is full of informative information that will help you decide if it's the right thing for you to do. Folks might think it's easy to start up a small business, and in some ways that is true but there are so many questions to be asked before taking the plunge and Bert's book will guide you through the maze. One of the first things the e-book starts off with is that any potential business owner should know they are a resource. Be positive at how you view yourself. Next you're asked to list what you "can do" and what you "like to do". Score the lists, define your markets and then correlate, meaning, once you know what you do best that compliments what you like to do, then you've taken the first step in setting up your business. There are many sections to the e-book and all had information that would aid in setting up and running a small business including creating a business plan, marketing vs. advertising, finances, the importance of business cards and to always have a printed handout, just to name a few. Several of the sections I found exceptionally helpful as I have had my own business in the past and had I had this e-book, it would have saved a lot of wear and tear on my brain! One of the sections I related to wholeheartedly is the portion that points out that in order to be your own boss requires a great deal of discipline and the importance of organizing your time. This is so true! Next he explains the necessity for knowing and understanding basic accounting principles. There's a lot more to keeping books than just depositing checks. He explains that understanding how it all works will enable you, the owner, to make correct decisions concerning your financial portfolio. Having your own website is covered and the reason to have your own domain versus belonging to a group type website is explained. This is very important and one of the things I did not do when I set up own business. I found this section, the 5 keys to small business success, very helpful and a good reminder of things we might forget. The five keys are attitude, discipline, professionalism, integrity and generosity. Go To Page: 1 2
