You know it's getting near that time of the year. The days are flying by and we have so many things we could make.
This is my most favorite holiday and I'm at a loss as to what to make! I want to do stockings and wreaths and potpourri, and well, just everything! I know we need to do something creative with our after Thanksgiving flowers and fruit but I just want to jump into making a Christmas craft as soon as possible. I'm thinking along the lines of a stocking swag. I saw something that triggered an idea in my head and I think it would be really pretty. If you have a fireplace, this would look beautiful and so festive. If you don't have a fireplace mantle, then it could be tacked over the door and draped down each side of the doorway or attach it (carefully!) to the front of your china cabinet or breakfront. If you have a staircase, you could run it down the banister. Here's my idea. We take miniature stockings and decorate each with potpourri, cinnamon sticks, dried cedar, miniature pinecones, pine needles (if available) berries (real or dried) miniature presents, filigree, and miniature ornaments. Once we decorate each stocking, we'd then attach it to a swag base. Now, you can use a swag made of holly or evergreen. Unless you have these available in your area in "real" form, we can use the synthetic pieces from the craft store. We can also use long pieces of gold rope or cord. Not too thick, but strong enough to hold twelve stockings. We can create two swags that would hold six stockings each for small areas or create one large one for a fireplace. It will be up to you to determine the size that will best fit the area you want to decorate. We'll also need ribbon in all the Christmas colors to make bows for the swag. The swag can be decorated with bows, Poinciana's, holly berries, ornaments, or whatever "theme" you'd like to represent. This is a great Christmas craft activity for the kids, too. They can be as creative as they like and can make a few extra as gifts for their friends. Here's a list of suggested supplies: · Red, green or gold cord for swag base · Evergreen type swag base · 12 miniature stockings with hooking tab (apx 3-4 inches long) · Ribbon - multiple colors · Dried flowers - cedar, any gold filigree type flower, Go To Page: 1 2
