Immortal Beloved
The story is so much more than just a recount of the journey the secretary takes in his investigation. Each person he questions brings new answers about the mystery woman and how she affected his life. These people show him in such a different light, that you realize that not many people truly knew him. Every interrogation serves as a clue to the final climax. In the end, the final witness recounts a tale that puts all the pieces of the puzzles together. It reveals an unexpected story. You begin to understand not only the letter, but his music and way of life as well. All those subtle expressions Oldman shows, all the vignettes about events in his life, and the reactions of the people knew all serve to define Beethoven as a man. Immortal Beloved is an intelligent drama that retells the tragic romantic life of Ludwig von Beethoven. The actors and settings work in synergy with each other to bring the audience a powerful message about life. While the film may not necessarily be flawless, the performances certainly allow you to involve yourself in the story.
