John Force became the all time winningest driver Sunday when he took his 86th win at the Route 66 Nationals. Since John is not likely to retire for a while, the record he ends up with may be a tough one to break.
Gary Scelzi did a quick comeback after wrecking his car on Friday to get his 18th win in T/F. Antron Brown took Bike, Bob Panella took Pro Stock S10 and Ron Krisher was a surprise with his first win in Pro Stock. I highly recommend the Super Chevy show if you have never been to one. From tons of Shoe Box Chevies to Rocket powered Funny car Camaros, it was a lot of fun. One of the big hits at the Super Chevy event was none other than the man himself, "Big Daddy" Don Garlits. He had a display there representing his Drag Racing Museum in Florida. He also had on display his Swamp Rat I Dragster built in 1956. Top Speed was a blazing 128 MPH. Big Daddy was supposed to run it later in the show but unfortuately I had to depart before he ran. I did however buy one of the posters of his most famous "Shoot for the moon" wheelstand that he did in Englishtown in July 12, 1986. It was that wheelstand where he stood the fueler straight up and one still spinning slick caught spinning the dragster 180 degrees. Big Daddy finally took his foot out of it and the dragster came back down headed back toward the lights. Basil Snyman was the photographer. Alright folks, we are settling in to the summer schedule and the racers are gaining or losing points. Drop me a line and give me your predictions for Champions in the top five categories.
