Noticably MIA were mid fifties T-birds. I saw only a couple of the Fire Chickens and they were late models. There was a fine assortment of mid sixties Galaxies and Fairlanes but I really wanted to see a '66 Galaxy 7 liter which I consider a real sleeper of a Muscle Car. For those of you figuring on your fingers, the 7 liter was a 428 cid with a C6 tranny that I surprised a lot of 396 Chevelles with. It is rare, granted, but things like that are supposed to show up at a car show like the Fun Ford.
The problem I believe is all the money was in Mustangs. No one made it worth their while to show up with anything other than a 5.0 or a 4.6 liter Stang. All I heard was "the future of Drag Racing". I'm sorry, but it is this mentality that has left Ford in the dust in drag racing in recent years. I now know why the Chevrolet and other GM models are so prevalent. The 5.0 and 4.6 mentality had made Ford uncompetitive except when they compete amongst themselves. We need a new look at Ford Racing.
Now for the quick results from Texas: One of the season biggest surprises came with Bob Gilbertson finally having a stream of good luck and taking F/C away from mister WWF. In top fuel Larry Dixon finally pulled off his first of the year defeating Schumacher who is trying to repeat his championship season from last year, Jeg Coughlin took another Pro Stock Championship and is bound and determined to give WJ fits this year and Randy Daniels snagged one in Pro Stock Truck from Bob Panella.
