IHRA Summit racing has been named an IHRA series sponsor. Summit racing is going all out to get its name associated with drag racing. A few weeks ago they inked a deal with NHRA and now they are dropping a cool $million into the laps of the IHRA. Go Summit!

Shannon Jenkins, the 1999 defending champion in Pro Mod wasn't satisfied. This year he's back with two cars on the team. If that doesn't shake the competition, they are both Vipers with Jerry Haas, 706 cubic inch, nitrous injected motors. Watch for their appearance at The Rock.

The IHRA Summit Drag Racing season opener will be at Darlington Mar 9-11. The Rock will make available test and tune Mar 6-8. Of course the two tracks are driving distance from one another.

NHRA For the motorcycle fans, The NHRA will have Top Fuel Bike exhibition at seven national events this year. See them at Gainesville, Houston, Englishtown, Joliet, Indianapolis, Topeka and Dallas. If you have never seen these two wheelers, they are a sight. There is only a handful of people crazy enough to go nearly 250 mph on a bike. Imagine that.

The NHRA is in the process of finely tuning their new fuel rules for clarification, go to NHRA.com and check it out. For those who voted in our opinion poll, rest assured it hasn't slowed down Gary Scelzi. The Winston Top Fueler punched out four consistently low 4.60's at 321 mph while "tuning" at the Tucson track in Arizona.

Last a sad note for the sport. "Fast Eddie" Dykes; a popular web based journalist died in a plane crash. He was on the way back from the IHRA banquet in Louisville, KY going to his parent's house in Tennessee. "Fast Eddie" will be missed.
