In the latest saga of Exide Batteries and Tony Schumacher, it appears the Top Fuel Champions sponsor is on again. No real explanation as to the change of heart although I am sure a contract, new NHRA Television schedule and the fact that Schumacher is the world champion had a little to do with it. Stay tuned for the next episode.

Doug Herbert, wishing to get a little T/F champion pie, has added Dave Settles as team member and Technology Consultant. In corporate lingo, he wants the brains and experience on his team.

NHRA has announced Ray Alley has been hired as Director of Top Fuel and Funny Car Racing. In light of the new regulations regarding Top Fuel and NHRA's new look at image and PR, this was an intelligent step. The bad news is Jerzee's T/F team Bob Vandergriff lost a fine crew chief.

With Kenny Bernstein still sidelined from arm and shoulder surgery, Tommy Johnson, Jr. is doing test runs in Arizona. Tommy will be on standby until someone offers him his own ride or until Kenny comes back.

Mark Pawuk of Summit Racings Pro Stock team is adding another car and driver to try to take away some of the Warren Johnson thunder. Mark has added Greg Anderson to pilot the second car.

In IHRA news, the Little Guys National scheduled for Feb. 12-13 in North Carolina has been cancelled. At this point no explanation has been given.
