Pro Stock Superbowl scores points for coming season.

Hoosier Tire picked up a big endorsement this week when the team of Warren and Kurt Johnson switched. Warren explained that he felt Hoosier was more committed to the sport of drag racing but word in the pits is that the Johnson team feel the Hoosiers are not as susceptible to tire shake. Look for other Pro Teams to jump ship from Goodyear, the only other major manufacturer of racing slicks.

On Friday at Houston, Tom Martino ran his Pro Stocker to a 6.867 at 200.08. Fastest so far during this testing series. Brian Self had the fastest and quickest truck with a 7.475 at 178.32.

Good news for Mopar fans as Daimler/Chrysler unveils their new Hemi. Pro Stock truck drives especially are excited since they feel the Chevy S-10's are grabbing too much of the Glory. Bo Nickens will be running a new Hemi for sure and many other of the Dodge truck drivers are looking at the new engine as well

Another team looking at the new Hemi will be the Dodge Boys. Darrel Alderman ran part of the year last year with very limited success while his partner Scott Geoffrion was out with a non-racing related back injury. At least one of the boys will be sporting a Hemi and you can bet if successful, both will have it before the seasons end. Pro Stock is shaping up.

In other NHRA news, an oil catch pan has been approved for fuel classes. NHRA's never ending quest for fewer cleanups has made some major changes this year. For complete story on these and other NHRA press releases go to NHRA.com.

IHRA

In IHRA news, Pro Stock driver Ron Miller ran a 6.579 and 210.63 mph in testing. The Pro Stock record in IHRA is 6.573 at 210.8. Needless to say the Moser Engine team is happy with the results.

Studebakers facts:

Pro Stock in the NHRA is only allowed to run 2 four-barrel carburetors while the IHRA allows fuel-injected engines. This accounts for about a 10-15 mph difference in the two sanctioning bodies.
