Drag Racing Bikes, and other news

First off this week, I want to say a little about drag bikes. Drag bikes have always been a wonder to me. I always wondered who was crazy enough to ride. I remember they first started Pro Bike racing in 1970. My brother and I went to Indy that year and a Pro Stock Motorcycle racer was being interviewed. At that time I believe the speeds were in the 160-mph range. The question asked was "Going the speeds you do, why even bother to wear a helmet?' I'll never forget his reply. "Man!! Have you ever had a June Bug hit you at 150 mph?"

In checking the records at http://www.dragbike.com/prostar/records.... I note that Elmer Trett from my own state of Georgia had the Top Fuel record at 235.10 mph. 6.069 in a quarter mile. In other Dragbike news. The NMCA has announced its 2000 schedule and payouts for the Streetbike Shootouts. There are only six cities on the tour. What is the weirdest car or ?? you have every seen dragrace?

Write and tell me what is the weirdest vehicle you ever saw drag race. After the over consumption of adult beverages, my brother and I almost swore off all alcohol once when we saw a 1957 Chevy with three doors on each side pull up to the Christmas tree. Yep! You guessed it. It was an old and very rare version of an airport limousine.

I am exploring the stranger corners of drag racing during this off-season. Is anyone out there familiar with the NEDRA- National Electric Drag Racing Association? In ways electric drag racing may at first seem comical but I know drag racing. In 1970, Top fuel was barely topping 200 mph. Now they are at 325 mph and Pro Stock and Street legal are clipping 200 with relative ease. Anyway I have been watching the NEDRA site at http://www.nedra.com/ and note they are reporting a Dennis "Kilowatt" Berube is using an electric dragster to turn 8.861 at 147.121. If he can do this consistently, I would love to see
