WordWeb is a handy English thesaurus & dictionary that resides in the user's system tray. Included in WordWeb are definitions, proper nouns, related words, 135,000 root words & 109,000 synonyms.

The definition of the word is given in the main window & antonyms, entails, type of, & types of the word will be displayed under the different tabs.

Highlight a word & click on the WordWeb icon in the system tray to retrieve the definition, related words, & any alternatives. Providing that WordWeb does not find the word within it's database, a web search alternative will be presented. The web search alternative will open a popular search engine & provide the definition of the word & any alternatives.

The freeware version cannot be launched from within other programs. However, within another program, simply highlight a word of your choice & WordWeb will automatically launch & display the definition & alternative words.

Other features include help, look up on the web, font size choices, & hot key assignment. Look up on the web will open the Google search engine in your default brower. Enter the word you want to look up & website dealing with that word & information will display.

Need more features? A Pro (Shareware) version of WordWeb is available from the developer's website. The Pro version includes features such as an expanded database, extra word lists, wildcard searches, cross-referencing to web searches, an editable database, & the ability to utilize WordWeb from within other programs such as Microsoft's MS Word.

I've given this program my personal rating (5-Best, 4-Very Good, 3-Good, 2-Fair,1-Poor) as well as a brief description of the Pros & Cons.

The above review & rating reflect my personal experience with this software. Other users' experiences may differ. The above-mentioned software was tested using a PC computer with the following criteria: AOpen, AMD-K6(tm-2), 300 MHZ, 294 MB RAM, & Windows ME. Monitor used is a Viewsonic 17", Model A70, screen resolution 1024x768. It should be noted that due to the wide range of systems used, I cannot guarantee how this software will perform on your computer.
