Other Licenses: Freeware Version - Limited Features - (Not Reviewed) - Size 1,128 KB PowerDesk Pro has to be the one of the best file managing systems I have ever had the pleasure of using. In fact, PowerDesk is all that MS Explorer was meant to be. The PowerDesk interface itself contains the majority of the programs & accessories a user could ever want to use, all from the click of a mouse. Start by creating a coolbar for all of your programs & accessories. Click Start/Programs/ then under the PowerDesk folder click Toolbar Wizard & select either Small, Taskbar or a Floating coolbar. Do not have WinZip? Not a problem! Simply utilize the handy archive feature built right into PowerDesk. Open & create many different archive formats including zip, cab, arj, arc, lzh, z, gz, tar, & rar. PowerDesk will view all the files within the archive prior to decompressing the files. Unlike Winzip I have found that some executable files may not execute properly from within PowerDesk, so I recommend decompressing these types of files prior to any installations. A user can utilize the built in e-mail system & FTP client to access FTP sites from within PowerDesk. FTP sites are rarely utilized by me & as a result the FTP portion of PowerDesk has not been reviewed. Please note that the e-mail portion of PowerDesk will utilize your standard electronic mailing system. PowerDesk gives the user three options to delete & remove files from the hard drive via the File Tab: 1. Recycle - Sends a file to the recycle bin, giving the user a 'second chance' for recovery. 2. Delete - Deletes a file without sending to the recycle bin.* *Personally, I could not find a way to 'undo' this feature. I can only assume a recovery utility would have to be utilized to recover the file. 3. Destroy - Removes the file from the hard drive permanantly. There is no recovery for this feature. Display the PowerDesk window & files in many different configurations to suit your tastes & work habits. Under View choose from a single pane, dual pane horizonal or vertical view. A user can even 'switch' the panes to the opposite side & choose to show just icons or details of the files on the hard disk.
